“My mama always said, “Life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” (Forrest Gump) When your life, like boxed chocolates, holds unwanted surprises, I am here to help. I provide a caring environment, offering unconditional positive regard, and will collaborate with you to find solutions to your specific life issues.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Education from Georgia State University and recently retired from a 20-year teaching career. I earned a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Richmont Graduate University and I am excited about now helping individuals and families through counseling. My extensive life experiences enhance my work with each individual I meet. I have worked with adults struggling with depression, anxiety, anger management, adjustment disorders, and divorce. As a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator, I have also worked with couples through premarital counseling and can provide guidance to married couples who may need help with communication skills and rebuilding their love relationship.
In addition to my career in public education, I also homeschooled my own children, so I am able to help families navigate a variety of educational challenges. I am also equipped to provide parent skills training and can certainly relate to any frustrations you may have with parenting. My easy rapport with children and adolescents is an asset in my therapeutic work dealing with abuse, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and behavior issues. I utilize Trauma-Focused CBT and play therapy techniques to help young clients and their families experience help, hope, and healing. I am also a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator. I would love to meet with you and explore ways to navigate your life’s surprises. I offer evening hours and accept some insurances.
